Frequently asked questions

Twelve questions that keep coming back: ordering, paying, delivery, storage, cooking, the Ecocert mention, allergens and tiered prices.

Ordering

1. How do I place an order?

You add the products to the basket, check the summary, then enter your delivery and billing details. The total amount, including postage, is displayed before confirmation: nothing is charged until you have seen the final price.

You then receive a confirmation email. If you cannot find it, check your junk folder, then write to us at info@spirumanne.com.

You can also order by telephone on +33 (0)6 13 12 29 18, particularly for large volumes or a question about formats.

2. Can I change or cancel an order?

Yes, as long as it has not left us. Parcels are generally dispatched within 48 hours to 7 days: write to us as soon as possible at info@spirumanne.com with your order number, and we will adjust it.

Once the parcel has been dispatched, you need to use the right of withdrawal (see question 12 and our Shipping page).

Please note that we cannot merge two separate orders: if you have forgotten a product, it is better to let us know before dispatch, otherwise postage will be due for each order.

Payment

3. Which payment methods do you accept?

Payment is made online, over an encrypted connection (HTTPS):

  • Card via PayPlug or Stripe — Visa, Mastercard, and depending on your bank Apple Pay or Google Pay. Payments are authenticated with 3-D Secure, in accordance with the European PSD2 regulation.
  • PayPal, with your PayPal account.
  • Payment in instalments, which may be offered under the conditions displayed before confirmation. [[TO CONFIRM: minimum and maximum amounts for instalment payment]]

We never see your card number: PayPlug, Stripe and PayPal are payment service providers; card data is processed by them and never stored on our site. For large amounts, we may exceptionally ask for a banker’s draft and proof of identity or address.

Payment by cheque made payable to Spirumanne SARL and by bank transfer remains possible (to reconfirm); write to us for the details.

4. My payment failed, have I been charged?

No. When a payment does not go through, no amount is charged and the order is not recorded. It may be a refusal by your bank, an interrupted 3-D Secure authentication or simply a timeout.

You can try again, change payment method, or write to us if it happens again. If a pending amount appears on your statement, it clears by itself within a few days; contact us if it does not.

Delivery

5. What are the delivery times and methods?

Parcels are generally dispatched between 48 hours and 7 days after receipt of your payment, from Belcaire in the Aude. Three options:

  • Colissimo tracked, delivered without a signature, with a tracking link;
  • Mondial Relay pick-up point, collected with a code;
  • Collection in Belcaire, with no postage, by appointment.

The Colissimo transit time is around 72 hours in mainland France (to reconfirm). The Mondial Relay time is shown before the order is confirmed.

Delivery may be free from €120.00 of purchases in mainland France, depending on the area and method; the applicable threshold is shown before payment. The exact postage is displayed in the summary before confirmation.

All the details — packaging, reservations on receipt, outside mainland France — are on our Shipping and returns page.

Storage and use

6. How should I store your products?

  • Powders, flakes, granules, tablets and preparations to dilute — dry and away from light. Close the zip bag or jar properly after use.
  • Spiru-Yang tartares — cool and away from light. Consume quickly after opening; add a drizzle of oil on top for keeping.
  • Raw cacao butter — dry, away from heat.

Each product page must show the validated best-before date (DDM), nutrition declaration, allergens, net weight and storage conditions.

7. Why should spirulina never be cooked?

Because it is very fragile: cooking changes its taste and texture, which become flat and dusty. That is why the words “never cook” appear on most of our product pages, and why our house recipes are guaranteed neither cooked, nor pasteurised, nor sterilised.

In practice: add the spirulina off the heat, into a cold or lukewarm preparation, or sprinkle it over the plate at the moment of serving. Do not mix it into a dough to be baked or a sauce that will simmer. For each product, follow the instructions on the label.

8. How much should I use, and what is the maximum dose?

Our product pages state 5 to 10 g per day for plain spirulina in flakes or powder, and from 5 to 20 tablets per day for 500 mg tablets — for example 5 for a child, 10 for an adult, 20 for a sportsperson, increasing by one tablet per day.

For the preparations: one teaspoon or tablespoon diluted in fresh fruit juice (Spirtonik, Spiru’Love), one to two large spoonfuls blended for Sportonus, a spoonful in a vinaigrette or pesto for the powdered blends, and sprinkle freely for the condiments.

Recommended maximum daily dose: 20 g. Our products do not replace a varied and balanced diet.

Good to know: preparations containing guarana (Spirtonik, Spiru’Love, Sportonus, guarana powder) are rich in caffeine and not recommended for children, pregnant women or breastfeeding women.

9. What is the difference between flakes, granules, powder and tablets?

  • Flakes — dried slivers, crunchy, to crunch as they are or scatter.
  • Granules — finer than flakes, they disperse better; this is the format of our condiments (12% spirulina granules in Green Mix Salade and Spiral Gomasio).
  • Powder — finely ground, it dissolves and blends anywhere; it is the base of our blends.
  • Tablets — spirulina compressed at 500 mg each, that is 200 tablets per 100 g. Our product pages recommend sucking them rather than swallowing them.

Our Spirulina page sets all this out in detail, with kitchen uses.

Products and labels

10. Are your products organic and Ecocert certified?

Let us be precise, because it matters.

The mention “organic spirulina — Ecocert mention” concerns only our India range: spirulina grown on a farm in Tamil Nadu, to the Ecocert specification, using only organic plant fertiliser.

For the other products, ingredients from organic farming are marked with an asterisk in the ingredient list of each product page, as on our labels. We do not present Spirumanne as an organic-certified brand: we do not hold our own certification for our prepared recipes, and we would rather say so than let the opposite be believed.

Our products are also GMO-free, pesticide-free, insecticide-free, with no colouring and no preservative, as stated on our product pages.

[[TO COMPLETE: organic certificate for the prepared recipes (Spiru-Yang, Spirtonik, condiments), if the client has one — without it, no “organic” mention on the finished product.]]

11. Are there allergens in your products?

Yes, and they are stated plainly on each product page. The main ones:

  • Spiru-Yang — contains sesame (tahini) and soya (tamari, rice miso).
  • Green Mix Salade — contains wheat (malted yeast).
  • Sportonus — contains hazelnut and almond.
  • Spiral Gomasio — made from gomasio, therefore sesame.
  • Spirulina & Nuts, Spirulina Cacao & Nuts, Toutella — contain tree nuts (hazelnut, almond).

Always read the full ingredient list on the product page before ordering, especially if you have a severe allergy. If in doubt, call us: +33 (0)6 13 12 29 18.

12. Can I get a refund if the product does not suit me?

You have a 14-day right of withdrawal from receipt, by notifying us of your decision in writing (info@spirumanne.com). You are then refunded in full, including the outgoing shipping costs; return costs remain at your expense.

This right is excluded only in the cases provided for by Article L.221-28 of the Code de la consommation (French Consumer Code): goods liable to deteriorate or expire rapidly, and goods unsealed after delivery which cannot be returned for reasons of hygiene or health protection. A still-sealed, intact bag can be returned to us.

This does not affect the legal guarantee of conformity: a damaged, non-conforming or unfit product is replaced or refunded, opened or not. Write to us with photographs: we handle your request under the legal guarantees.

Trade customers and the association

Do you offer tiered prices and trade rates?

Yes to the first. 17 of our lines come in several formats, from 50 g to 5 kg: the price incl. VAT and the price per kilo are displayed for each format, on each relevant product page, and the best price per kilo is flagged.

One example, for organic Indian spirulina powder: 50 g at €6.00 (€120.00/kg), 100 g at €10.00 (€100.00/kg), 500 g at €40.00 (€80.00/kg), 1 kg at €70.00 (€70.00/kg).

For retailers, health-food shops, restaurants and public institutions, write to us at info@spirumanne.com or call +33 (0)6 13 12 29 18: we consider each request case by case, according to volumes and frequency.

What is the Uni Vers La Vie association?

Uni Vers La Vie is an association formed in 2008, to which Spirumanne gives part of its profits. The brand’s founder has been its co-president since the general meeting of 17 May 2017.

It distributes spirulina, teaches family and self-sufficient cultivation, and runs documented projects in Burkina Faso, Morocco, Algeria and the Sahrawi camps of Smara and Tindouf. Our Burkina Faso range comes from the humanitarian farm at Gondologo, in Ouahigouya, part of whose production is given away free locally.

Everything is set out on our Solidarity page, and on the association’s website: universlavie.org.
