The Camu-Camu tree originates in the Amazon rainforest and belongs to
the Myrtaceae family. A large part of Camu-Camu is grown in Peru for its berries, which bear the same name. The Camu-Camu (fruit) has a tangy flavour and a reddish colour. Its colour indicates the presence of certain antioxidant pigments. Its flavour reflects the presence of acid in its pulp: ascorbic acid, a rich source of vitamin C:
3 g a day will meet the vitamin C requirements for the day.
This nutritional treasure is a source of therapeutic virtue. Joints, skin and bones benefit from the action of vitamin C on collagen: an essential protein found throughout the body. Camu-Camu is also the subject of some scientific research, which concludes on its genuine antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, prebiotic and potentially slimming power.
